This tour, led by Joan Gand of Chicago Bauhaus and Beyond, features the architecture of Riverwoods, where prairie modernism flourished between the 1950s–1970s. More than 30 homes designed by Edward Humrich were built here, and many still exist. The area also attracted other prominent architects of the day including Keck and Keck, Dennis Blair, Ike Colburn, and Robert Hausner. Many of these homes are nestled in the woods and will be visible from the bus as it approaches the three homes on the tour. Tour-takers will meet homeowners and learn the history of this wonderful area, including a visit to a mid-century furniture and glass collection, and an award-winning garden.
