Chicago Bauhaus and Beyond NEWS

THIS Sunday, February 11,  1:30 pm
CBB Annual Meeting
Chicago Architecture Foundation
John Buck Company Lecture Hall Gallery
224 S Michigan Ave.
Chicago

LOCATION:

Our meeting will be held at the ArchiCenter in the historic Santa Fe Building at 224 South Michigan Ave. (at Jackson) in downtown Chicago. This magnificent early 20th-Century building was designed by Daniel Burnham, a giant in Chicago’s architectural history, and was fully restored in the 1980’s. Parking is available in the South Grant Park underground garage, adjacent to the building. It is also easy to reach by public transportation. An exhibition is currently being held featuring Frank Lloyd Wright’s Price Tower that should be of interest to all of us. A "Corner Bakery" is located in the same building, should any of us wish to arrive early and grab a bite.

PROGRAM:

Los Angeles: Modernism and the Creative Furvor of the 50s/60s

Presentation by Allen Porter, a former student of the New Bauhaus/Institute of Design, one of a group of pioneering modernist designers who was both active participant and keen observer of the creative climate that characterized Los Angeles in the 1950s and 1960s, including Chicago connections. Allen is one of the founding members of Chicago Bauhaus and Beyond.

Our hosts will be the Chicago Architecture Foundation, who have been so supportive of our group since our very first meeting held there in February of 2004.
